Joseph Kuo is involved in various aspects of intellectual property practice pertaining to patents, trademarks, trade secrets, unfair competition and false advertising. He has substantial experience in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications in the mechanical, process engineering, computer, Internet, and electrical fields. He also has significant experience in the preparation and prosecution of business methods patent applications in both business-to-business and business-to-consumer areas. Joseph Kuo has prepared and prosecuted patent and trademark applications for both small and large clients in the United States and internationally.

In addition, Joseph Kuo counsels clients with infringement, validity, trademark and patentability opinions. He has counseled both large established companies, as well as young start-up operations, regarding planning and executing effective strategies for obtaining and maintaining maximum protection of their intellectual property and trade secrets.

Joseph Kuo's litigation experience includes several patent matters in a wide area of technologies, including building materials, printing presses, polymer chemistry, peptide synthesis, computer software, optical character recognition, and intraocular lens replacement. He also has experience in trademark and trade dress litigation. Joe has litigated matters in several District Courts as well as before the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

His academic credentials include a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Northwestern University and a J.D. from Tulane University. Joseph Kuo is admitted to practice in Illinois, before the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, is a member of the Trial Bar of the District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Joseph Kuo is a member of the American Bar Association, Chicago Bar Association, and the American Intellectual Property Lawyers Association. He also authored the article, "The Digital Copyright Act-A Balancing Act to Promote the Arts," which published in the CBA Record, V 17, p.40 (May 2003).
