Kathleen Lyons has been practicing in the field of intellectual property for approximately thirty years. She has prosecuted patent and trademark applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and has counseled clients on various intellectual property matters, including litigation, patent and trademark prosecution, patent and trademark licensing agreements, and distribution agreements. Kathy has litigated before the federal courts, in U.S. Patent Office interference proceedings, as well as trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings, and before the U.S. International Trade Commission.
Her prosecution and litigation practice has spanned a wide range of technical disciplines including: pharmaceuticals, medical equipment and devices, chemical compounds and processes, electronic systems, mechanical devices, such as farm equipment, getters and insect removal devices, as well as a trial and appeal under the Hatch-Waxman Act. She has tried several patent cases dealing with oximeters, blood pressure transducers, X-ray technology, computer controlled slot machines, electronic technology for the remote reading of utility meters, bag-in-box packaging technology, newspaper inserters, saddle stitchers, thermo compression medical devices, and systems for ink cartridge refilling.
Kathy has participated extensively in appeals to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit as well as to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
Kathy has a degree in chemistry from Loyola University of Chicago and a J.D. degree with honors from DePaul University. She is admitted to practice in the State of Illinois, before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, the U. S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Kathy is a member of the Trial Bar of the U. S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. She is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Before entering law, Kathy was an instructor of Chemistry at Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School in Chicago.
